The next DLC release for Marvel's The Avengers is titled The War For Wakanda. Here are some of the best rumors surrounding the expansion.

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics may not have had the hit on their hands that they may have expected with Marvel's Avengers, but the title is set for a big year in 2021 with a roadmap of updates leading to the exciting next installment of this ongoing story.

This next DLC release is titled The War For Wakanda and is being pitched as a much larger expansion that is surely set to shift the game into new territory and bring in both old players and new fans alike. The DLC is based around King T'Challa, the Black Panther, as well as Wakanda itself. There's a great number of theories surrounding the project as well as a few rumors as to what could be in store for owners of the game.

MCU Skins

One thing that has already been confirmed for the Avengers game, in general, is that players will be able to purchase skins for their heroes, based on the costumes and designs of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Indeed, the first hero that will get their big-screen attire will be Black Widow in the Red Room update.

However, with this news already exciting fans, it's very possible that to coincide with the launch of The War For Wakanda, the game may also allow players to purchase the MCU skin for Black Panther, alongside some of the other characters that may be taking part in the DLC.

New Boss Battle

It's fair to say that Black Panther probably deserves his own solo title, but since the King of Wakanda is being folded into the Avengers game it's only fitting that one of his most significant villains also makes the jump from the comic book page to the video game screen.

Klaw will be the foe involved in one of the latest boss battles that players can partake in. Of course, this is welcome news considering the game is low on villains. Reveals from the trailer and knowledge of the character from the source material show that this may be a more comics accurate Klaw, complete with his sonic weaponry and modern take on his classic costume.

Ant-Man's Involvement

There's a great number of playable characters rumored for the future of the game but one hero that has yet to get in on the action is Hank Pym. Players are familiar with the extremely quotable Ant-Man's role in the game's story but the character thus far has not been controllable for fans.

This may change with The War For Wakanda and the involvement of Klaw. Ant-Man, Klaw, and Black Panther all have a history in the comics. In fact, this has spread to other areas of the Marvel Universe such as the Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated show, with the episode entitled The Man In The Ant Hill being a good example of this. It's plausible that Ant-Man may become playable in this DLC.

7
A Solo Intro Mission

The Hawkeye Future Imperfect DLC gave players a glimpse into the potential future for this version of the Marvel Universe. The expansion opened up with fans being introduced to Old Man Clint, as he fought his way through decaying AIM robots.

With the success of this opening, theories suggest that Black Panther may be getting an extremely similar opening that players can enjoy that's slightly detached from the main narrative. Whether it's fighting criminals in Wakanda or a side mission with a familiar rogue, Square Enix may have found a successful way to bring in additional Avengers effectively.

6
Other Enemies

The official description for this latest DLC has some potential hints as to some of the other characters that fans can expect from the Avengers title. Interestingly it describes new enemies and teases much much more that has yet to be announced.

The assumption is that with Klaw there will come new foes to fight. Since this is being pitched as an expansion, Klaw may not be the only foe players can face, with the likes of the iconic Killmonger or Malice as potential options for the update.

5
The Wakandan Palace

The official description for the game, alongside the various backgrounds that can be seen in the trailer showcase that Wakanda really will be featured heavily as part of this Black Panther DLC. Indeed, it seems it will be a location that players can return to like the Ant Hill or the Chimera. With that in mind, it's highly likely that players will be able to interact with the capital of Wakanda itself and use the Palace as a base. The tag line is 'Bow Down To The King' meaning these royal facilities will come into play somehow. It's sure to be an exciting update for fans of the MCU and the comics if this turns out to be the case.

4
Familiar Allies

Players will know that each location has its own unique set of characters that match their setting. They are often used as vendors and NPCs, yet with their models inside of the game it's possible players could suit up as Maria Hill or Dum Dum Dugan down the line.

With The War For Wakanda firmly set in the African nation, the setting will need its own set of NPCs. There's been speculation that heroes like Okoye, Shuri, and the various tribes of Wakanda, could therefore all be featured in the locations that players visit.

The Winter Soldier

There have been a number of lists created using various leaks and patch notes about the characters that players may have access to in the future of the game. Thus far these have been mostly accurate with Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, and now King T'Challa joining the fold.

With a Wakanda DLC that is clearly partially inspired by the MCU, it's possible another hero/villain makes their debut. The Winter Soldier has been featured on many of these rumored lists. With his time in Wakanda as the White Wolf on the big screen and the game further tying itself to this cinematic universe, it may be that the various personas of Bucky could play a part in this expansion.

2
Involvement of the Infinity Stones

There's been a number of canceled Marvel video games in the past, some of which attempted to deal with the cosmic side of Marvel. Thanks to social media though, new fan theories and speculation suggests that this cosmic universe may be about to collide with the Avengers game.

Fans have suggested that due to the colors chosen in the design of the roadmap for future DLC, Square Enix might be teasing the upcoming debut of the Infinity Stones. It may even be that Wakanda is the home to the first of these stones. Of course, players have already encountered the Kree, so this galactic link feels even more reasonable.

1
Shuri

While the Winter Soldier is a theory that may not link to The War For Wakanda, surely an intelligent hero like Shuri might be a playable hero that fans can interact with.

Considering the costumed model for both T'Challa and Shuri's versions of the Black Panther would be relatively similar, it's plausible that the King's sister is brought into the game as an alternative skin (with additional voice acting) or perhaps as a slight copy, as was the case with Kate Bishop and Clint Barton who carried similar skillsets.
