Every MCU Easter Egg in the Collector's What If...? Collection - CBR.com

The second episode of What If...? pays a visit to the Collector's museum, which contains a number of MCU Easter Eggs.

BY MATTHEW SONNACK

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for What If...? Season 1, Episode 2, "What If... T'Challa Became a Star-Lord," streaming now on Disney+.

The second episode of Marvel's What If...? depicts what would have happened if T'Challa had been taken to space by Yondu instead of Peter Quill. The Black Panther's variant visits the cosmic corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and crosses paths with a number of characters previously seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. One of these people is Taneleer Tivan, better known as the Collector.

Tivan first appeared in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, where he was shown to have amassed a huge collection of items from across the galaxy, including a number of references to wider Marvel lore. The Collector's appearance in What If...? has him taking on a more actively villainous role, but his collection remains full of recognizable flora, fauna, and relics. Here is a breakdown of every MCU Easter Egg in the Collector's collection.

Cosmo

The first MCU reference in Tivan's collection is also the first collection item seen in Guardians of the Galaxy - Cosmo the Spacedog. Cosmo was sent into space by the Soviets as part of their space program, but ended up being found and kept by the Collector. In Guardians, Cosmo escapes the Collector's museum, but later returns to lick Tivan's face. What If...'s Cosmo ends up becoming a pet for the Ravagers.

Dark Elves

The Dark Elves first appeared in Thor: The Dark World, serving under the command of Malekith the Accursed. Although they were all seemingly wiped out by Thor and his allies, some survived and were seen locked in Tivan's museum in Guardians. Similarly, several Dark Elves are seen being held in Tivan's collection in What If...?, only to escape at the end of the episode.

Howard The Duck

Seth Green reprises his role as Howard the Duck in What If...?. He is locked up in one of the Collector's trophy cases, but T'Challa frees him after he offers to tell T'Challa where the Embers of Genesis are. However, Howard gets distracted by Tivan's alcohol collection and T'Challa leaves him behind as an alarm goes off.

The Collector's Ships

While attempting to locate the Embers of Genesis, T'Challa ends up in a room housing the various ships and vehicles that the Collector has obtained over the years. These include one of the Nova Corps' ships, the Grandmaster's leisure craft, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Quinjet and even what appears to be an X-Wing from the Star Wars franchise.

Korg's Arm

When the Ravagers' treachery is revealed, Tivan decides to take matters into his own hands and engages in a battle with T'Challa. In order to aid himself, Tivan retrieves a gauntlet made from the arm of a Kronan who he describes as chatty. This is a pretty clear reference to Korg, the fan-favorite Kronan and ally of Thor who debuted in Thor: Ragnarok.

Captain America's Shield, Thor's Hammer & Thanos' Sword?

After discarding Korg's arm, the Collector summons a case full of weapons to help him fight T'Challa. There are several familiar items in the case, including Captain America's shield, Thor's hammer and what appears to be Thanos' double-bladed sword. How the Collector was able to acquire these incredibly powerful items, especially Mjolnir, remains unanswered.

Malekith's Dagger

One of the weapons in the Collector's arsenal that receives a spotlight is Malekith's dagger. Malekith was the leader of the Dark Elves in Thor: The Dark World, and his primary weapon was a dagger forged of dark matter. Tivan uses the dagger in his fight against T'Challa, but quickly returns it to his arsenal in favor of a more powerful weapon.

Hela's Helmet And Nercroswords

The most powerful weapon in the Collector's arsenal is Hela's helmet, which he dons towards the end of his battle with T'Challa. It first appeared in Thor: Ragnarok, where it was used by the Asgardian goddess of death in tandem with her obsidian Necroswords. What If...? seems to suggest that it is the helmet itself that produces the Necroswords, as Tivan is able to generate and use them once he puts on the helmet.

Other Familiar Prisoners

After T'Challa and Yondu manage to defeat the Collector and lock him in one of his own cages, they give his slave Carina control over the entire collection. Carina chooses to open the cages and release Tivan's vengeful captives. Many recognizable races and species can be seen among the prisoners, including Kree, Dark Elves and Pluvians (the crystalline species of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's Martinex).

In addition, other species are mentioned earlier in the episode. While T'Challa is asking Howard the Duck where the Embers of Genesis are, Howard name-drops the Frost Giants. These creatures first appeared in Thor, and one of them also appeared as part of Tivan's collection in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Top-ranked League of Legends player arrested in Chinese internet cafe after his name is announced to everyone - PC Gamer

By Andy Chalk 2 days ago

The Challenger-ranked player was basically arrested because his rank was too high.

So you're one of the top-ranked League of Legends players in the world, among the top 0.011%—a Challenger, in the vernacular—and as such, you decide one day to spend some time in a local internet cafe, honing your skills in your favorite game. As ordinary as an athlete walking into the gym, right? Alas, as reported by Chinese site Biajiahao, you have picked the worst possible day to do this, for three reasons:

◾ 1. As a Challenger, you're kind of a big deal, and so this joint in the city of Chongqing that you've just sat down in has announced your esteemed presence, by name, to everyone there.

◾ 2. Among the customers is Zhang Yihao, a fellow LoL aficionado who also happens to be an off-duty cop who's both attentive and good with faces.

◾ 3. You are a wanted criminal.

As the story goes, when the cafe announced the player's presence, Yihao wandered over to have a look—it's not every day that you get to see a player of that caliber in action, after all. But when he got there, he thought they looked familiar, so he quietly snapped a photo, confirmed that the player was in fact a criminal suspect, and then—kapow!—he called in some backup and made the bust.

"I made an appointment to play a game, and then at noon when I went to the toilet, I heard it," Yihao said in the video above, via machine translation service. "The strong king came online, and then I saw a man with a dirty pony tail that looked like ours before."

(For the record, I think "strong king" is a spectacularly good name for a top-tier gamer, and we should all start using it in our day-to-day conversation.)

It's not the sort of thing you'd be likely to see happen in the West—personally, if someone shouted "Andy Chalk is in the house!" when I walked into a shop I'd leave immediately and panic-scrub my social media presence—but according to win.gg, it's relatively common in China for high-ranked players to get the red carpet rolled out for them when they log on. The purpose, aside from a bit of ego-fluffing, is apparently to encourage everyone else on the scene to keep grinding (and, I assume, paying for access) so that they too can enjoy the fame and fortune that comes with being among the best of the best. And let's be honest—If Michael Phelps hopped into my local pool I'd probably want to make a big deal about it too.

After this, though, I have to wonder if some people might decide that maybe the quest for celebrity isn't quite all it's cracked up to be. It's not clear what exactly this League-loving criminal was arrested for, but the Google-translated Baijiahao report concludes with a spot of trenchant wisdom that we could all stand to keep in mind: "You never know why your teammate suddenly hangs up."

Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams to Debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Exclusive) - ComicBook.com

By BRANDON DAVIS - August 19, 2021 03:43 pm EDT

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has added Dominique Thorne to its cast, the actress who will be playing Ironheart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thorne had previously been announced as the MCU's Riri Williams for the hero's self-titled Ironheart series coming to Disney+. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed to ComicBook.com that Thorne will make her MCU debut as Ironheart ahead of the release of her self-titled series.

"We're shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first," Feige said in an interview surrounding the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. "She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series."

In the Marvel Comics universe, Riri Williams is a teen-aged engineering genius who designs her own version of an Iron Man suit. Following her father's death, she lives with her mother and her aunt in Chicago. At 15 years old, she gets herself accepted into MIT. It is there that she builds her own version of an Iron Man-style armor. After using the armor to stop two escaped prison inmates, Tony Stark reaches out to her and gives her his blessing to become a new, armored hero, yet there is no indication that Robert Downey Jr. or Tony Stark will be a part of the character's story in the MCU right now.

The character first appeared in comics in cameo form for 2016's Invincible Iron Man #7. She soon after made a full appearance in Invincible Iron Man #9. Marvel Studios boss announced Thorne as Riri Wiliams during Disney's Investor Day meeting back in December of 2020. How big of a role Williams will play in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently unclear.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever recently began production in Atlanta. Ryan Coogler returned to direct, following the huge success of the first Black Panther movie from 2018. In the wake of T'Challa actor Chadwick Boseman's passing, the original cast, including Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba, Daniel Kaluuya Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong'o, and Martin Freeman, are expected to be returning. Additional new cast members include Tenoch Huerta as Namor, as well as yet to be cast roles for Marvel Comics characters Attuma and Namora.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be Ironheart's live-action debut. The character has appeared in animated shows including in Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron and the Spider-Man episode "Amazing Friends." She's also appeared in Marvel Entertainment video games includes Marvel Puzzle Quest, Marvel Future Fight, Marvel Avengers Academy, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, and Marvel Strike Force. She is one of several young heroes to be making their way to the MCU, following the additions of Cassie Lang in the Ant-Man movies, Billy and Tommy Maximoff in WandaVision, Eli Bradley in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Kid Loki in Loki, and Yelena Belova in Black Widow. Still to come are Kate Bishop in Hawkeye and Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2022. Ironheart does not yet have a premiere date on Disney+. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings opens in theaters on September 3.

ASSASSIN’S CREED VALHALLA’S EGGHEAD CHALLENGE REMOVED AFTER PLAYERS ARE UNABLE TO CLAIM THE EINHERJAR BOW - VGC

THE WEAPON WILL RETURN TO UBISOFT CONNECT AS A FUTURE REWARD

By Tom Ivan

Ubisoft has pulled Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Egghead community challenge after issues resulted in players being unable to claim the Einherjar bow reward.

The time-limited challenge required participants to perform headshots as a community to unlock the weapon, but bugs meant progress was either not being tracked properly or rewards were not being given out.

“We are temporarily removing the Egghead Community Challenge following issues with some players not having their contributions tracked or rewards granted,” Ubisoft said on Tuesday.

“The Einherjar bow will return to Ubisoft Connect as a reward in the future after the problems are resolved for all players.”

Last week Ubisoft provided workarounds for a pair of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla issues that have emerged since the release of the game’s latest major update.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla title update 1.3.0 launched on July 27, introducing the Sigrblot Festival, a time-limited event running from July 29 until August 19.

Players can unlock exclusive rewards, including a one-handed sword, by participating in activities and quests.

However, Ubisoft updated Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s list of known issues last Thursday with two problems players can run into with the Sigrblot Festival.

It said players “may lose control of Eivor when activating the fishing line from the action wheel during the wolf kill finisher (Three Big Pigs)”. If this happens, players should try loading a previous save file or reloading the game.

Players may also be unable to interact with quest givers if they push them out of position. If this occurs, players should exit the zone before returning to reset the quest giver’s position.

Last Friday, Ubisoft also released a hotfix to address an issue with the Sigrblot quest ‘War Effort’ and exhausted foreign supplies.
